Tonight Alive, a female fronted pop-punk/rock band from Australia, will release What Are You So Scared Of?, on February 14. If you like early Paramore, then you'll dig Tonight Alive. Check out "Breaking & Entering" by going here and
"Starlight" by going here.
One thing singer Jenna is not scared of? Engaging in a Take Aim vs. Amy Sciarretto.
So, what are you scared of, to borrow a phrase from your album title?
To be honest? Judgment. A lot of what the album's message was based on for me was being scared to be myself and what I learned from that mistake.
Do you think there are challenges unique to being a female in a band?
We don't treat ourselves any differently to any other touring band. We're faced with all the same challenges and being female fronted has made them neither easier or harder!
Answer this: If I wasn't doing music...
I'd be a nudist hippy.
Pick one song on the album and share a story about it, be it writing/recording stuff or what inspired it. Anything that puts us "there" with you in the song!
I guess "Starlight" is a bit of a song with a story. As a band and as individuals we've been broke as f**k for the past 2 years. I left school and got a job but maintaining income become really difficult when we started touring and with only a matter of days at home in between tours it's now that you come to find what you love and appreciate the most. At the time, I was in a relationship and the song was inspired by knowing that everything you have is enough and that every struggle is worth it just to be happy with who you are and what you have.
Any non-music hobbies or skills?
I love art! In school I got better grades in art than any other subject, including music [laughs]. I'll draw and paint when I feel inspired.
