Today, Matt Scannell, vocalist, guitarist and songwriter aka triple threat for Vertical Horizon, stepped into the Take Aim ring. Before you listen to the band's new single, "Broken Over You," from the new album Echoes from the Underground, how about spending a little time catching up with Scannell?
Scannell was so game for our fun and sometimes asinine questions. For that, we LOVE him. He had a great sense of humor and when he switched gears to serious while discussing "Song for Someone," it was really sincere. He is husband material.

Vertical Horizon. Music. Good.
If you were not doing music, you would be...
... Practicing psychology on someone. Lucky for them, I'm in Vertical Horizon.
Any non-music hobbies, talents or skills?
I love driving. I've been to some pretty amazing places around the world and driven some spectacular roads. I've also sat in L.A. traffic. That's not so fun.
Pick ONE song one your record and share a writing or recording story. Something intimate, that you haven't told anyone else (or at least a bunch of writers or journalists) and that which puts us in the moment with you. Let's get intimate, shall we?
I began writing 'Song for Someone' after playing some shows in Iraq for the armed forces. I remember one night it was 125 degrees outside and a sandstorm was starting up. I saw a female soldier walk by in full uniform and body armor while carrying a massive backpack and rifle, and I wondered what kept her going. I then thought of the people back home who loved her and missed her... The song went from there.
Finish this sentence: Vertical Horizon is the artist that...
... Has most influenced Led Zeppelin's music.
