If there's one thing that you'll take away from Tamar Braxton's triumphant Love and War, it's that this girl can sing like few can. Like all classic R&B records, it's Tamar's marvelous voice that resounds the loudest throughout—and long after it's over. It's like she's been the music industry's best kept secret for all of these years, and she's finally getting the attention she deserves. It's definitely her time.
The collection veers from the overpowering soul of "Stay and Fight" and "Pieces" to the uplifting dynamics of "The One". It's in the more soulful moments that the diva's pipes achieve iconic heights though. Just listen to the hook on "All The Way Home"—it's resonant of Whitney, but decidedly Tamar. At the same time, she knows how to have fun like on the smoothly sexy "Hot Sugar" and club-tailored "Tip Toe", which recounts some late night good times.
Where everything really comes together and she steps into the ranks of the greats is the final track "Thank You Lord". It practically hits heaven once she begins belting out the refrain—utterly divine.
Love and War is everything a classic R&B record should be and so much more, and it's propelled by one of the genre's biggest and best voices.
