The Avalanches are officially back and they have announced multiple shows. The now duo of James Dela Cruz and Tony Di Blasi will be playing four festival gigs this summer, including Barcelona, Spain's Primavera Sound (June 3rd-5th), London, England's Field Day (June 12th), and Splendor in the Grass in Byron Bay, Australia on July 22nd.
On Monday, the group updated their Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Soundcloud, Youtube, and website with the same photo featuring a stitched gold butterfly on black fabric. However, there is still no word on their follow up to 2000's Since I Left You.
Stereogum reports, "The last significant bit of info we've heard about a Since I Left You follow-up was back in 2014 when Danny Brown said his record with the group would "change the world." Last year, founding member Darren Seltmann left the group, and Pitchfork reported, "The news was confirmed by the band's label, Modular, who said: "Yep, Darren hasn't been in the band for a while, so officially the band is Robbie Chater and Tony Di Blasi right now. Album sounds awesome, but there's no dates or anything planned. The official line is 'stay tuned.'""
The Avalanches last played live at Vivid Live 2011 at the Sydney Opera House. Before that, the band had not played a show since 2007. There are no updates on any future live shows at this time, but at least there are these three to look forward to. And, hopefully, this means that a new album will be coming our way sometime in the near future.
