It's official, The Avalanches have updated their social media accounts and website. However, there has been no update on why the updates were made or when we might expect a follow up to 2000's Since I Left You. The group updated their Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Soundcloud, Youtube, and website with the same photo featuring a stitched gold butterfly on black fabric.
Stereogum reports, "The last significant bit of info we've heard about a Since I Left You follow-up was back in 2014 when Danny Brown said his record with the group would "change the world." Last year, founding member Darren Seltmann left the group, and Pitchfork reported, "The news was confirmed by the band's label, Modular, who said: "Yep, Darren hasn't been in the band for a while, so officially the band is Robbie Chater and Tony Di Blasi right now. Album sounds awesome, but there's no dates or anything planned. The official line is 'stay tuned.'""
The Avalanches last played live at Vivid Live 2011 at the Sydney Opera House. Before that, the band had not played a show since 2007. There are no updates on any future live shows at this time.
For years, word has been coming out that the followup to Since I Left You is being worked on and around the corner, but nothing official has ever been announced. We hope this gold butterfly signifies something new on the horizon.
