For a limited time earlier today, the second song, "If I Was A Folkstar," off the The Avalanches' eagerly anticipated sophomore album was available on Soundcloud. Unfortunately, it has since been removed. Last week, The Avalanches released their first new material in 16 years, the bizarrely beautiful "Frankie Sinatra," which featured MF Doom and Danny Brown. The second song we get to hear from the record features Toro y Moi and samples Queens Of The Stone Age's "You Think I Ain't Worth a Dollar, But I Feel Like a Millionaire."
A little over a week ago, The Avalanches announced that Wildflower, their first album since 2000's Since I Left You, would be released July 8th via XL Records. Speaking with Zane Lowe of Beats 1 Radio, the band "revealed there were many moments over the past years where the band, like their fans, thought the album would never happen," adds The Guardian. However, Wildflower is coming out, and we can all rest easy. The Avalanches added on their interview with Zane Lowe that their will be 21 tracks or "segments" on the record, and Father John Misty, Toro Y Moi, Jennifer Herrema of Royal Trux, Camp Lo, Biz Markie, Mercury Rev's Jonathan Donahue, and Warren Ellis of the Bad Seeds would all be making appearances.
The Avalanches played their first live show in 15 years a couple weekends ago at Barcelona, Spain's Primavera Sound. Next up for the band is Australia's Splendor in the Grass, which will be followed by a set at Fort de Saint-Pére, France's La Route Du Rock 2016. They have no shows currently scheduled after that.
