The Beatles Forgiven By The Vatican

Halleluiah! The Vatican, the seat of the Catholic reign of terror, has apparently forgiven those dastardly Beatles for John Lennon's statement that the band was "more popular than Jesus." Hey, at least Lennon was acknowledging that J.C. is a popular figure! He has to earn some points for that!
Accordingly to a tribute in Vatican newspaper L'Osservatore Romano, Lennon's comments, coupled with drug use and "dissolute and uninhibited lives," is what turned the Vatican against the band in the '60s. But now, "Listening to their songs, all of this seems distant and meaningless," L’Osservatore read. "Their beautiful melodies, which changed forever pop music and still give us emotions, live on like precious jewels." Kinda like the message and teaching of Jesus Christ himself, which is to forgive. I'd totally bump elbows with the Pope and fist-bump other high-ranking Vatican'ers for doing the right thing and forgiving The Beatles for Lennon's metaphorical comments.
Was The Vatican wrong to get their collective pantalonis in a bunch over Lennon's words? What's your favorite beautiful Beatles melody?
