Musical chameleon Beck teamed with long running electronic duo The Chemical Brothers for their latest album, the GRAMMY-nominated album Born in the Echoes, on the track "Wide Open," and today the team released the companion video.
The vid was directed by the duo's long-term visual collaborators dom&nic, the creative force behind the now-classic "Hey Boy Hey Girl" and "Setting Sun" videos.
The press release tells us "the video centers on the evocative dance of a young woman whose body transgresses from flesh to another form throughout the course of the songs haunting vocals and delicate but powerful production."
Beck's vocals, normally in a more acoustic setting, add a natural element to the song's chilled progression, playing off short film's theme that "merge[s] the mechanical and organic" and is "inspired by procedural cellular structures" allowing "seamless transformation which happens during the dance."
The band is scheduled to play a few European summer music festivals, including the just-announced South West Four 2016 Sunday headliner, on August 28 in London.
Born In The Echoesis out now on Astralwerks, and is up against Caribou's Our Love, Disclosure's Caracal, Jamie xx's In Colour, and Skrillex And Diplo's Skrillex And Diplo Present Jack Ü for Best Dance/Electronic Album. The GRAMMYs are scheduled for February 15.
