The Classic Crime hail from Seattle, a town that feels the weight of it's recent rock legacy, and often casts a shadow on the endeavors of new artists building new avenues for expression. This indie rock four piece may be influenced by the gravity of grunge, and the authentic approach to bringing the self forward in songs, but they're very much modern in their world view.
The songs on their latest album, How to be Human, are very much rooted in a straight forward sense of rock - but there are twists in the sequence which allow for individual flourishes of creation. It's an existential album, by it's very nature - questioning the human scale and purpose while delivering solutions in honest swathes and with sympathetic ears.
ARTISTdirect caught up with vocalist and 'guitar stuff' guy Matt MacDonald, from The Classic Crime to talk about How to be Human, who has the best dance moves, and just why he's packing his van and heading north...
