The Cure co-founder and former drummer Laurence "Lol" Tolhurst has announced his first memoir, Cured: The Tale of Two Imaginary Boys. The book, which chronicles the band's history until 1989, and Tolhurst's lifelong relationship with friend and Cure co-founder Robert Smith, will be released by Da Capo Press on October 11th.
The book promises to be an authoritative account of an iconic band which contributed greatly to the genesis of Alternative music. This is an insider's tale of 40 years in and around the music, from the perspective of someone who was there from the very beginning. The story charts the personal lives of the band, and reveals the dynamic highs and lows that surrounded the rise of The Cure - one of the most critically acclaimed bands of all time who also established global commercial appeal, selling over 30 million units worldwide, and earning more than 40 Platinum and Gold Records in the UK, Europe Japan, Australia and the US.
The book's publishers promise that "Lol takes readers on his personal odyssey from suburban London to the Mojave desert and across the miles of love, addiction, pain, forgiveness and ultimately, redemption, experienced in-between."
In an exclusive early excerpt available on Noisey, Tolhurst writes;
"This is a record of the things that have kept me awake at 4 a.m., the precious flowers of the past blooming in the dark corners of memory… I have tried my best to capture whatever that light shone on. I hope it illuminates events for you as much as it has for me."
The book's cover art was designed by Pearl Thompson, who (as Porl Thompson) played guitar for The Cure and created the majority of the band's album art.
