The Dark Knight has passed the $1 billion earnings mark. The film has grossed over $1 billion in global revenues and picked up eight Oscar nominations, winning in the Best Sound Editing and Best Supporting Actor (Heath Ledger) categories. It now ranks as the fourth highest grossing film of all time, trailing only Titanic, The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King and Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest, in that order. The film was re-released in IMAX theaters last month to help push it past the $1 billion mark.
The Dark Knight is the second-highest grossing domestic film of all time, behind Titanic. The film has more than doubled the gross of any of the prior films in the franchise.
