Warner Brothers plans to re-release its cornerstone summer blockbuster, The Dark Knight, in January at the height of Oscar voting season. It's possible the studio may release the film to IMAX venues, too.
Given the monolithic commercial success of the film—it's grossed $512 million domestically, including $55 million in IMAX earnings—in addition to the critical raves it has received, several Oscar nominations seem likely. The film is due on DVD in December and those plans shouldn't interrupted due to to a theater re-release.
