Pete Bernhard of the folk-inspired The Devil Makes Three says, "Our best export I'd say is our music and art, especially in the folk and blues traditions." The band has just released their new album Redemption & Ruin, and it's filled with those sort of classic tunes. They reached down into the gut of American musical tradition and picked out tracks by Robert Johnson, Muddy Waters, Willie Nelson, and Kris Kristofferson, just to name a few, that need to be heard by all.
Redemption & Ruin looks to breathe new life into and show the world the songs that have inspired The Devil Makes Three and thousands of musicians before them. In order to do this, they brought in a variety of the music world's best, including Tim O'Brien, Emmylou Harris, and Jerry Douglas - who they had an especially good time with.
ARTISTdirect's Christopher Friedmann caught up with The Devil Makes Three's Pete Bernhard to discuss the songs that inspired him to become a musician, the tradition that drove ambition, and words of advice from a host of guest icons.
