Billboard is reporting that West Coast rapper The Game has said he believes that as he gets deeper into his career, he doesn't feel the need to promote his albums as hard. He believe that as an elder statesmen of hip-hop, he shouldn’t have to hawk his new music as hard as he did when he was just starting out. Lapse in work ethic or hard-earned privilege? You decide.
"I'm not into promoting. I give you a date and if you're a Game fan, then you'll get the album," The Game said. "I don't sell myself. This is my fourth album. I don't think I need to do all that."
Despite the statement that would make execs at his label, Interscope, blow a gasket, The Game has a slate of radio visits and promotional events on his schedule domestically and in Europe. So isn’t saying that you do not like to promote your new album a method of promoting your new album? Sure sounds like it to me.
R.E.D. is due out July 6.
Is The Game’s philosophy a good one? Or should he be out their busting his ass, as the music fan can be a fickle one?
