The Go-Go's Don't Know When They Will Reschedule Farewell Tour

The Go-Go's bassist Kerry Valentine told Spinner that she doesn't know if and/or when the all-girl band will reschedule their farewell tour. The tour was cancelled when guitarist Jane Wiedlin fell in a hiking accident. She had to have reparative knee surgery. "It's just such a drag," the bassist told Spinner. "We have a small group of really loyal fans. Because it was our last concerts, there were some people that bought flights from Scotland, England, Holland and different places in the country. Some of them can't get refunds either."
The tour is not a matter of being simply rescheduled, as Wiedlin's recovery period could last well over a year. "I'm hoping we can reschedule so that we can do a proper victory lap. It's kind of beyond my control and it's gonna be off in the future if it happens. The whole reason that it was a farewell tour in the first place because [singer] Belinda Carlisle wanted to retire." Well, here's to hoping that Belinda gives it one more go-go round –I had to, sorry- once Wiedlin is healed and able to rock. She owes it to the fans! The reason for the farewell tour? Well, it was supposed to be a proper send off to a long, successful career, one that can only be finished with Carlisle fronting the band. Valentine said, "We felt like we would rather go out on top and intact. If we were 25 or 30 and [Belinda] wanted to retire, then it would make sense to go find a new singer and make our new way. But we're all over 50. None of us saw really the point of getting a new singer."
As for Valentine, she ain't collecting social security checks or looking or an AARP membership like most retirees. She now plays guitar in the Bluebonnets, a group she formed with bassist Dominique Davalos in the '90s.
