Can you believe we're already talking about the most anticipated albums of the summer? It seems like just yesterday we were planning our New Year's Eve party. Before you know, it will be 2012 and we'll be talking about the Top Ten Ways to Protect Yourself Against the Mayan Apocalypse. Summer isn't meant for such heavy thoughts, however- so let's get to the albums that will be rocking our block party barbeques all season long.

Lady Gaga - Born This Way - May 23

Probably the most highly anticipated album of the year from the biggest pop star on the planet, Lady Gaga's Born This Way will have a lot of fans expecting quite a bit. And by that, we mean massive hit songs, and really strange outfits.

Death Cab for Cutie - Codes and Keys - May 31

Get ready for some melodic introspection, people! Death Cab singer Ben Gibbard always melds beautiful music with profound lyrics. You might want to get some new shoes to gaze at this summer.

    Korn - Digital EP - June 14th

Now it's time for something completely different: Korn just released a brand new track on their website called "Get Up"- co-written by one of the hottest dubstep DJ's around, Skrillex. "Get Up" is now streaming on SoundCloud. They also made a surprise appearance at Coachella with Skrillex that rocked the Sahara tent silly. Now, the internets, radio stations, and rabid fans everywhere can't get enough- which means this digital EP will be making a big splash this summer.

    White Denim - "D" - May 23

It turns out that white denim isn't just a great fashion statement. This band's quirky, jammy mix of Grateful Dead-meets-Minute Men is different from most anything out there. Be prepared for what could be their breakout album this May. With this offering as any indication, we could all be watching this band and tripping on peyote at Bonnaroo for years to come!

Beastie Boys - Hot Sauce Committee Part Two - May 3

The Beastie Boys have understandably been on hiatus for several years- stemming in part from Adam Yauch's (successful) battle with throat cancer. The entire album emerged on Soundcloud this week, and is very reminiscent of Check Your Head and Ill Communication. Translation? This might be the Beastie's best offering in fifteen years, so it's time to pass the hot sauce!

Five Finger Death Punch - Title TBD - date TBD

Having both of their albums go gold recently has confirmed 5FDP as an astounding anomaly in the 2011 music industry. Over a year and a half after their last record's release, it still outsells most hard rock bands. My guess for the reason why? The fact that the albums are really, really good. Expect this next album to be something big.

My Morning Jacket - Circuital - May 31

Jim James's alt-country outfit's last album was one for the ages, and they always seem to walk that perfect line where they can include just enough country in their performance, but not so much so that you hate them. Their new album should satisfy fans, just like their previous work.

Jane's Addiction - The Great Escape Artist - August

With the addition of Dave Sitek (TV On The Radio) on bass, Jane's seem to have reinvigorated themselves. The early tracks that have emerged are some of the coolest, most ethereal tracks they've ever produced- and this is a Hall-of-Fame-to-be band we're talking about. Don't expect The Great Escape Artist to disappear any time soon. See what I did there? Pun! "End To The Lies" is now available on iTunes.

Queens of the Stone Age - Title TBD - date TBD

With rumors of a new QOTSA this summer, they can officially change their name to "Queens of the Summer Age"! No? Well fine. My feelings are hurt, but I'm slightly consoled by the fact that there will be a new Queens album this year. QOTSA is on tour in Europe much of the summer, so check 'em out if they are in your area.

Kanye West & Jay-Z - Watch the Throne - ate TBD

Two of hip hop's heavyweights combine to release an album- it's a two-for-one special! Kanye West's My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy was so fantastic, we momentarily forgot what a rude guy he can be. Looks like it's time for another album to distract us! "H.A.M", the first single, was teased to the world back in January.

May this summer be full of sun, fun, and lots of great new music. Here's to hoping the only burning that happens this summer is of your favorite new CD's (legally, of course!). That last line was quite a stretch, but hey- I guess I'm just getting into the summer spirit early. Pass the sunblock!

What upcoming releases look tempting to you? Tell us below...
