The Kills have announced their new album, Ash & Ice. The record is due out March 3rd via Domino Records. Ash & Ice is the follow up to 2011's Blood Pressures, and is the duo's fifth studio LP. The band also released the album's first single, "Doing It To Death," and its accompanying music video, along with details about their upcoming North American and European tour.
It has been five years since The Kills have released an album, due in part to Jamie "Hotel" Hince's five hand surgeries, which resulted in him having to re-learn how to play guitar with a permanently damaged finger. "It was during Hince's recuperation from surgery that he first started sketching out what would become the songs for the album. To shake up the writing process, Hince booked a solo trip on the infamous Trans-Siberian Express for inspiration while Alison Mosshart, now residing in Nashville, TN, wrote some of the most affecting, poetically candid lyrics that she ever has," states the press release.
The Kills will play House of Vans 50th Anniversary in Mexico City, Mexico on March 16th, as well as two South by Southwest performances before heading out on tour. The tour begins April 7th in Nashville, Tennessee and finishes June 4th in San Francisco, California. Along the way, the duo will play at Coachella and Shaky Knees Festival, as well as headlining shows in Brooklyn, Washington D.C., Chicago, and a many more. The band will finish their concert series July 9th at Moscow, Russia's Park Life Festival, but are also scheduled to play August 6th at Off Festival in Katowice, Poland.
