Last year, after John Cale performed The Velvet Underground & Nico's classic debut album at a special show at the Philharmonie de Paris, Cale announced a second show celebrating the LP's 50th anniversary would be taking place in Liverpool, England on May 26th. The show will take place at Liverpool Waters, Clarence Dock. Today it was announced that The Kills, Clinic, Wild Beasts, Gruff Rhys, Nadine Shah, and Fat White Family would be supporting Cale. In a press release about the show, Cale said, "It's such a privilege to have this calibre of artistry about — it's not that they fit the legend, rather the legend is part of each of them."
The concert will be part of Liverpool's Sound City Festival. The festival, which is now in its 10th year will also feature performances from The Kooks, Metronomy, The Human League and many more between May 25th and 28th. Cale will also be interviewed during the festival, and there will also be a Velvet Underground dance party.
The Velvet Underground & Nico remains a seminal album for all music. The Kills are a perfect support group for the celebration for the album, as they have always cited the album as a major influence.
The concert will be taking place at the Liverpool docks, which face west across the Atlantic towards New York City, a city almost synonymous with The Velvet Underground.
