The National have announced they will be donating the profits from their online store sales since Black Friday to Planned Parenthood, the American Civil Liberties Union, the Southern Poverty Law Center, and Democracy Now! The band posted a note to their Twitter saying, "Civil Liberties are not set in stone." They continued, "While much social progress has been made in the past, we are entering an era where basic liberties are in jeopardy. It's more important than ever to take action to ensure that none of our voices are silenced and that none of our liberties are obstructed." Visit The National store here.

The National have a history of political activity, and during this past election openly supported Hillary Clinton. Lead singer Matt Berninger was on the "Rolling Stone Music Now" podcast and said of Clinton, "She has many flaws. I've got so many flaws and I'm in love with myself. But I give myself a break. So I think she's wonderful, especially the way she's been handling what she's been facing recently and with direct power, elegance. I've totally got a crush on her."

The National is currently hard at work on their next album, and Berninger has previously stated that he and his wife are co-writing the lyrics for the upcoming record. The band has not announced a release date for the record or a title at this point.
