It's hard to believe that summer is here. More importantly, we only have three more months to wear white before Labor Day and the fashion police take it away from us! Time is of the essence, and music is the essence of time. I know that makes absolutely no sense, but let's move on- here are the top ten tracks to make your summer playlist the best on the block.

"Get Up!" - Korn featuring Skrillex

When metal legends Korn teamed with one of the hottest dubstep DJ's around, it was just a fun experiment. Now, it's turned into something of Frankenstein's monster- a track that has gotten a life of its own! This track has absolutely blown up online and has become a huge radio hit. Expect a full-length album from Korn in a similar vein this fall; definitely one of the biggest releases of the year.

    "Wires" - Red Fang

These stoner-rock slackers know a couple things: a) how to channel the dirty hard rock of the seventies and b) how to make a hilarious video. You've got to check out the video for "Wires" to truly appreciate this amazing, epic track. You can catch these Portlandians all summer on the Rockstar Energy Mayhem Festival, or on a couch drinking beer, I would imagine.

"Push It" - Jessie & The Toy Boys

Jessie and her Toy Boys have been bursting on the scene and causing quite the buzz in the dance and pop worlds. This pulsating and propulsive hit has what it takes to make you lose your mind- whether it's in the club, at the beach, or in the middle of a courtroom! Yeah, it's that good. Jessie will be on the Femme Fatale Tour this summer alongside Britney Spears and Nicki Minaj, so catch her if you can.

"Got it All (This Can't Be Living Now)" - Portugal. The Man

Did you know that the Pixies and David Bowie had a baby? Well they did. And they called it Portugal. The Man. This alternative outfit channels Ziggy Stardust with a quirky, indie-rock sensibility. It's almost like an astronaut with a flannel shirt, skinny jeans and beard.

    "Drug" - White Denim

It turns out that White Denim the band is even cooler than white denim the article of clothing! America, meet the next great jam band. These guys absolutely kill it live, and they have an edge about them that transcends most jam-band music. I call it jam-rock with a definite edge. They may camp in the desert and smoke peyote, but they can still crack a bottle over your head when you're not looking! The new album is called D.

"Well OK Honey" - Jenny O.

Jenny O. has a folksy, subtle charm to go along with her musical chops. You may have heard her music on Target commercials or in your favorite TV shows, and there's a reason for that: she's really good. Watch for Jenny O. She's a rising star. You can buy her EP Home, over at iTunes.

"Pumped Up Kicks" - Foster the People

This is just a purely enjoyable song, and a true smash hit. It's the kind of song that gets an immediate reaction wherever it's played, and it's perfect for your wet-hot American summer.

    "Satellite" - Rise Against

There's a rockabilly sense to "Satellite," a stand out from Rise Against' fantastic new album, Endgame. "We stick to your game plans and party-lines/ but by night we're conspiring by candlelight/ we are the orphans of the American Dream," lead singer Tim McIlrath howls with conviction. You can start a movement just in time for Independence Day with this as your soundtrack!

    "I'll Be Waiting" - Adele

Adele's latest album, 21, is simultaneously conquering the charts, the radio waves, and the hearts of music lovers of all ages. With incredible songs that transport us back to a forgotten era, it's no surprise the success Adele is experiencing.

    "Arlandria" - Foo Fighters

Long before their 2011 album, Wasting Light, Foo Fighters cemented themselves as one of the biggest and best rock bands in the world. "Arlandria" is a cut that combines classic Foo Fighters with a bit of a twang- and a little new wave sensibility thrown in to boot. It all adds up to one perfect summer swagger!

    "Living in America" - DOM

DOM brings the brightness and ingenuity that MGMT first brought to popular music just a few years ago. I always wonder- how can twenty year-olds perfectly capture the sounds of the eighties?

"I Follow Rivers" - Lykke Li

Ever since her enigmatic and beautiful single, "Little Bit," Lykke Li has been on our radar. With the voice of a troubled angel and the production of a mad scientist, Lykke has become one of the brightest stars to watch and one of the most interesting as well.

Be careful in the summer heat when you're blasting these bad tunes. Don't melt your iPod, and remember to follow the code of the ocean. Most notably Clause 4: No peeing in the ocean. —Mark Phillips
