From traditional New Orleans sounds to Southern metal, the line-up for 2011's THE VOODOO EXPERIENCE PRESENTED BY STEPHEN REHAGE continues to reinforce its commitment to support music of all genres with the latest additions of local favorites The Original Meters and Atlanta metal rockers Mastodon.
The Original Meters last graced the Voodoo stage in 2006 in a unique one-time collaboration with 2006 headliners the Red Hot Chili Peppers. This performance marks a special hometown reunion for the influential group, who due to their other solo and group commitments, rarely have the opportunity to perform together. That fact makes VOODOO that much more special.
The addition of Mastodon follows VOODOO's ongoing support of rock (Nine Inch Nails in 2005 and 2008, KISS in 2009 and Ozzy Osbourne in 2010) and comes as the Georgia band prepare for the release of their fifth album The Hunter. That's a real coup for organizer, mind you.
2011's THE VOODOO EXPERIENCE PRESENTED BY STEPHEN REHAGE in New Orleans' City Park, set for Friday, Oct. 28, Saturday, Oct. 29 and Sunday, Oct. 30, will feature its traditionally eclectic line-up including a variety of exclusive US festival appearances from Soundgarden and blink-182; performances from the recently reunited The Raconteurs, the original members of X, plus Snoop Dogg, TV on the Radio, Fatboy Slim, Girl Talk and many more.
The 2011 VOODOO line-up (as of Aug. 22) is as follows and should make your mouth water. Go ahead, get a tissue. We'll wait, since you will need it to mop up the drool.
Okay, ready? The lineup includes: Soundgarden; Blink-182; The Raconteurs; The Original Meters; Snoop Dogg; TV On The Radio; My Chemical Romance; Fatboy Slim; Girl Talk; Dr John and The Lower 911; Social Distortion; Cheap Trick; Mastodon; X; Odd Future; Major Lazer; Z-Trip; Ray Davies; Fitz & the Tantrums; Kreayshawn; A-Trak; Ozomatli; Portugal. VOODOO's annual musical celebration is on display through its three unique performance areas: Le Plur, VOODOO's dance space which celebrates an amazing list of electronic talent from around the world; Le Ritual where the main stage worships the music of the world's most renowned artists; and Le Flambeau's two performance spots (Preservation Hall Tent and the WWOZ Stage) which honor the roots and history of New Orleans music and its inspiration on others. Each of VOODOO's individual performance areas is enhanced by the use of interactive art set amid City Park's lush lagoons, bayous and one of the largest collections of mature oak trees in the world.
