The Pretenders have announced a new album. Alone, will be produced by the Black Key's Dan Auerbach and will be the band's first album since 2008's Break Up The Concrete.
As ever, the band will be led by Chrissie Hynde, the only remaining original member of the Pretenders. On the record she's joined by members of Auerbach's side project, The Arcs, producer and drummer Richard Swift, and keyboardist Leon Michels.
Announcing the album, Hynde explained that it dealt with the joys of being alone. "We were in the studio hanging out… And the guys were talking about their families and their wives and I said, 'Well, I do everything alone. I go to the cinema alone. I go to restaurants alone. I live alone. I pretty much do everything on my own. I don't mind.' I thought, 'I've heard 1,000 songs in my life, they're all about, I'm so tired of being alone. I can't live without you. Since you've left my world has fallen apart. When am I going to see you again? Marry me and be with me for the rest of my life.' I have never heard anyone celebrate being alone in a song. I couldn't think of one."
The album will be released on October 21st via BMG.
Earlier this week the band also announced a North American tour with Stevie Nicks, which starts four days after the album release on October 25th in Phoenix, Arizona, with a string of dates that end in Inglewood, California on December 18th.
