Last night, The Weeknd and Belly were scheduled to play on "Jimmy Kimmel Live," but canceled the appearance because Donald Trump was also set to appear on the same episode. According to AP, "Belly said he canceled because he didn't want to share a stage with Trump and disagrees with the presumptive Republican presidential nominee's views and beliefs."
Belly released a statement saying, "I'm here on a campaign of positivity and love and to contribute what I can to music. I create songs people go to sleep and wake up to, songs that they fall in love to. For me, being Muslim and being somebody that appreciates my access here in America, I love the fact that I'm able to be here. To play my part in this business is a privilege and a beautiful thing. The fact that I could lose that ability through the actions of someone such as Donald Trump isn't right to me. At all."
Instead, Gregory Porter performed on "Jimmy Kimmel Live," and Donald Trump made his appearance.
This past weekend, The Weeknd won eight awards at the Billboard Music Awards, including Top 100 Artist and Top R&B Artist. He is next set to play at BBC Radio 1's Big Weekend 2016, which happens May 28th through May 29th in Exeter, United Kingdom. His next planned appearance after that is June 25th in Coventry, U.K. Most recently, The Weeknd made appearances on Kanye West’s "FML" off Life of Pablo and on Beyonce’s "6 Inch" from her album Lemonade.
