"I got my heart right here," confesses The Weeknd on "Wicked Games", the first single from his forthcoming Trilogy, out November 13.

    He's not lying either.

The Weeknd's heart is out there in every single note of music he records, and it's beating louder and louder. That's why he's the most innovative, inventive, and inimitable artist of the past decade. "Wicked Games" skates between airy, ominous production and his divine delivery. A shaky bass line reverberates as he admits, "I need confidence in myself".

Now, "Wicked Games" carves a middle ground between sexy and haunting. Very few artists in history have been able to strike that delicate balance so effectively. You can certainly move to the song, but when you listen to his lyrics they're heartbreakingly deep. It's a rumination on love, lust, and loneliness, more on par with great literary works than most of his contemporaries.

Play "Wicked Games" below and you'll never be the same.

He also just dropped "Enemy" on YouTube. At the start, a slow piano rings out before slipping into an industrial-style beat. The Weeknd admits, "I want to lose myself between your legs", and it's a chilling plea when delivered with that undeniable voice.

"I'd rather be your enemy than any friend you'd think I would be," he sings. "I'm just trying to make you numb without a word".

He doesn't need to explicate everything. The sheer bliss of the song itself does all the talking for him. The Weeknd dissects "love" with an honesty that's simply unparalleled. His music hits so hard because of that. It's also timeless for the same reason…
