Following the collapse of their previous label, V2 Records, the high-profile, blues-rock duo the White Stripes are currently without a label. Free agents Jack and Meg White are an unlikely pair in these modern times—they perform classic rock with a minimalist approach, using only a guitar and drum kit (and the occasional piano), and shying away from grandiose production. Nevertheless, considering the 4.5 million records they've sold in the U.S. alone, the band is quite possibly one of the few remaining rock acts that consistently sells.

Billboard.com reports that the White Stripes are very close to completing a "a long-term, multi-million dollar deal with Warner Bros." If the deal is indeed resolved, the Stripes will find themselves among an impressive roster alongside the Red Hot Chili Peppers, the Flaming Lips, Green Day, and R.E.M..
