Themselves Bounce Back After Six-Year Hiatus

Doseone and Jel of Themselves (see also: Subtle) have announced their first proper shows and new material in six years. First up is theFREEhoudini mixtape, which will hit the Web in early March featuring guest appearances by Aesop Rock, Slug of Atmosphere, Busdriver, Why?, Buck 65, Alias and more. According to a statement by Doseone, "TheFREEhoudini is an inspired Themselves rendition of the classic mixtape medium, housing a medley of original music, it features every rapper we have ever shared a cause with in the past decade. It is also a gift, for these curious times in the consumption of music."

In other Themselves news, the duo will drop their third LP, CrownsDown, in August. As Doseone puts it, "CrownsDown is our statue—to rap as it reared us—and the arch and arrow, of what it is to be us, in a decade of music made and the temperature of these two thousands."

Um, word. Expect a handful of Themselves gigs in the next couple months, including appearances at South By Southwest (March 18-21), Coachella (April 19) and San Francisco’s Apple Store (February 28).
