Thom Yorke is auctioning off his first draft of handwritten lyrics for "Airbag" for charity. "Airbag" is the first song off Radiohead's 1997 album OK Computer (Parlophone). The money earned from the auction will go to Oxfam, "a global organization working to right the wrongs of poverty, hunger, and injustice."
NME reports, "The original draft of the lyrics will be sold by Dreweatts & Bloomsbury Auctions on March 18 with the money raised going to Oxfam. It is expected to raise £800-£1200 ($1150-$1750 U.S.).
Yorke's lyrics are written on the inside cover of a copy of William Blake's Songs of Innocence and Experience owned by Yorke. Throughout the book Yorke underlines words and annotated the margins, especially to 'Nurse's Song,' 'A Cradle Song' and 'The Divine Image,' with corrections and revisions.
"Airbag" is the opening track on Radiohead's 1997 album OK Computer and opens with the line "In the next world war, In a jackknifed juggernaut, I am born again."
Radiohead recently announced a slew of European festival appearances, including a headline appearance, at Barcelona, Spain's Primavera festival. The group will also be performing at NOS Alive Festival in Lisbon, Portugal, Switzerland's OpenAir St. Gallen, as well as others. Hopefully, these live gigs and all their time in 2015 spent in the studio will result in some new music later this year.
