To Write Love on Her Arms, a non-profit movement dedicated to presenting hope and finding help for people struggling with depression, addiction, self-injury and suicide, is launching a college campaign. It will begin by holding a speaking engagement at UC Riverside on October 14.
"We're excited about the opportunities we're getting to bring the TWLOHA message to universities. We talk about things that people tend not to talk about, and we're trying to meet people where they are. With each of these nights, it's an attempt at an honest conversation, an attempt at introducing the possibilities of hope and help and community. More than anything, we're trying to let people know that they're not alone and we're trying to start a conversation that continues long after we leave town," said To Write Love On Her Arms founder Jamie Tworkowski in a statement.
TWLOHA exists to encourage, inform and inspire and also to invest directly into treatment and recovery. Since 2006, they have responded to 80,000 messages from people in 40 different countries. TWLOHA has one of the largest online audiences of any non-profit on both MySpace and Facebook. They recently created a YouTube video with Joaquin Phoenix, Miley Cyrus, and Liv Tyler in support of the organization.
