Tom Waits and Lorde, along with Bastille are returning to join a panel of renowned songwriters to act as judges for the 2016 International Songwriting Competition (ISC). Also on the panel are Chris Cornell, Ziggy Marley, Femi Kuti, Fat Joe, India Arie, Kaskade, the Dixie Chicks' Martie Maguire, Vijay Iyer, Devo's Gerald Casale, Donovan, the Civil Wars' Joy Williams, and more, along with several music industry executives.
The ISC is an annual contest that aims to "provide the opportunity for both aspiring and established songwriters to have their songs heard in a professional, international arena." The grand prize winner receives $25,000, nine days of recording time at Dark Horse Recording Studios, a custom acoustic guitar, and other prizes. The competition is now accepting applicants. The deadline to apply is September 9.
This year the ISC has added a new category called "Unpublished". The category aims to open doors to songwriters whose work is unpublished, to be assessed by a panel of established high-profile judges. A release on the official website reports " We all know how important publishing is to an artist - it is one of the major sources of revenue, but it is so difficult to get your music heard by publishing companies. So, ISC is taking steps to open the doors for you by having established, high-profile publishers as judges for this category only. This is your chance to get your music heard by publishers who can help your songwriting career."
