Top Music Videos Of The Week - March 12-18
Fri, 18 Mar 2016 13:14:51
South by Southwest is in full swing, and everyone is off enjoying Austin, Texas, but that hasn't stopped artists from unveiling some scintillating music videos. EL VY, the collaboration between The National's Matt Berninger and Menomena's Brent Knopf, put out two videos this week, including the haunting "Sad Case / Happiness, Missouri." Speaking of haunting, José González's "With The Ink Of A Ghost" placed movement against beige, creating a surprisingly emotive piece. Andrew Bird and Fiona Apple battled it out over love in the video for "Left Handed Kisses."
Across the Atlantic, The Last Shadow Puppets dug their own seaside graves in "Aviation." Massive Attack put out another mysteriously beautiful video, "Ritual Spirit", which was full of spinning lights and tracers. Kim Gordon's newest project Glitterbust released their first music video, "The Highline." Meanwhile, PJ Harvey got Washington D.C. politicians in a huff about her most recent track, "The Community of Hope," and didn't bat an eye while releasing the video for it. And that was only the beginning for a week filled with spectacular sights and sounds for all to share.
Here are our favorites:EL VY - "It's A Game" - Return to the Moon - Directed by Tom Berninger
NOTE: Not Suitable for Work
For those still unaware, it turns out that The National's Matt Berninger has a pretty talented brother. In EL VY's video for "It's A Game," which he also directed, Tom Berninger shows off his remarkable drawing abilities and tries to find what connects Brent Knopf and his brother.
Cassius - "Action [ft. Mike D and Cat Power]" - Directed by TOILET PAPER
Uncynical, uncool, and downright bizarre, Cassius' video for "Action" [ft. Mike D and Cat Power] is a thing of beauty. The duo find themselves in a tropical paradise full of gorillas, dancing girls, tiki drinks, and volcanos. We simply suggest you sit back, relax, and press play.
Classixx - "Grecian Summer" - Directed by Steve Smith
Here's a video made by our friend Steve Smith for a new song called "Grecian Summer".Posted by CLASSIXX on Monday, March 14, 2016
Sometimes all you need is colors, movement, and shapes. Really, what else is there? Classixx's music video for "Grecian Summer" proves true beauty is in simplicity and sometimes that's all you need.
