Top Songs Of The Week - February 13-19
Fri, 19 Feb 2016 11:31:13
Another week filled with great new songs has come to an end, with artists big and small releasing tracks sure to be listened to throughout the entire year. Kanye West premiered "30 Hours" off his finally released The Life of Pablo. Mavis Staples gave us "Dedicated" and the Nick Cave penned "Jesus Lay Down Beside Me." The vibes on Classixx spin on Natalie Prass' "Bird of Prey" [ft. Joe Keefe] are some of the chillest of the year. And Weezer unveiled their ode to "LA Girlz."
It wasn't just the top dawgs putting out tasty infectious tunes. Quinn Walker got all up in modern social media's face with "Selfie Queen." Drug Pizza certainly deserves a response for their newest track "No Reaction." John Carpenter scores our haunted headspace via "Distant Dream." And we wouldn't trade anything for Vic Mensa's new single "unless, She was 5'7, pretty waist, coke bottle, basket case."
St. Vincent - "Emotional Rescue (Rolling Stones Cover)"
It's not easy to cover the Rolling Stones. But if anyone has the attitude to summon the spirit of early 80s Jagger, it's Annie Clark.
Hoops - "Feelin' Fine"
When we first heard Hoops' tapes 1 + 2, we were blown away by its lo-fi guitar pop chill vibes. "Feelin' Fine" bursts with hazy summer rays and reminds us that a polaroid-filled summer is just around the corner.
The Big Pink - "Beautiful Criminal" - Empire Underground EP
Pop-y synths and dark, elegant harmonies slowly drip through your ears as "Beautiful Criminal" becomes more and more contagious. This is some gooey and infectious s***.
