Top Songs Of The Week - February 6-12
Fri, 12 Feb 2016 14:21:11
The second week of February saw a host of new tracks hit the airwaves. Missy Elliott is back in the game, releasing her newest track with help from a Super Bowl commercial, "Pep Rally." Com Truise released the iridescent "Diffraction" from his upcoming EP, SIlicon Tare (Ghostly International). BJ the Chicago Kid teamed up with Kendrick Lamar on "The New Cupid," and Jeezy smacked all of us with his newest track, "Hit Um."
Of all the songs that popped up this week, here are our three faves:James Blake - "Modern Soul" - TBA - Self-released
We still don't know what's going on with Blake's upcoming album, Radio Silence, but when he drops tracks like "Modern Soul," we begin to itch for more. Waves of emotion rise and fall from James' voice, while silky piano chords and mechanical percussion wash over the hymn-like track.
Mogwai - "Ether" - Atomic - Rock Action Records
In April, Mogwai will release Atomic, a reworking of tracks it created for the BBC nuclear warfare documentary Atomic, Living in Dread and Promise. This week, the Scottish post-rock giants unveiled "Ether." The track glows with hope and optimism, though it's from the opening of the film and things only get darker from there.
Gwen Stefani - "Make Me Like You" - This Is How The Truth Feels - Interscope
Gwen Stefani announced her first album in a decade, This Is How The Truth Feels due out March 18th. With a poptastic beat and a puppy-love catchy chorus, it's clear that Gwen is back and ready to climb back to the top of the pop charts.
