True Blood star Janina Gavankar will release her debut single, "Waiting for Godot," via all digital retail platforms August 28, 2012 [iTunes link]. Gavankar musically crosses from a dub drop to an A Capella choir on "Waiting for Godot"—the end result of a collaborative creation with Apparat and producer Cory Enemy (Peaches, Ellie Goulding). It's heaven to our ears.

"Sometimes the starting point is a question, sometimes it's an instrument, sometimes it's a person I've been dying to collaborate with," Gavankar, who plays Luna Garza, says about the song's conception. "I've never had one way of approaching things. But the process is always experimental." Lyrically, Gavankar references the famous play, of the same title, by Samuel Beckett, over a haunting, ambient foundation, that later progresses into dub-step, then into a choir—yes, a choir, of 25 moving parts. The mix of experimental, quirky, electro-pop, on her debut single is just a taste of what to expect on her not-yet-titled, upcoming EP, which drops later this year via Randy Jackson's Friendship Collective label. "One day Randy Jackson called. He said, 'You're weird! I like it! I think you're going to make great music!' Now I'm releasing those works on his label."

The never-musically-monogamous, classically-trained, experimental songstress has crafted highly-collaborative music on her debut EP, fusing IDM and classical elements together. Gavankar has recently enlisted electronic musician, Trifonic (BT, Hecq, Hybrid), to help her create her EP, with more to come! "I don't give a shit about who's 'cool'," says Gavankar. "I'm only interested in working with people I already know and love, or people I've been salivating over for years."

Gavankar is no stranger to making music, having been classically trained in voice and piano.

Fans of True Blood will be able to purchase Gavankar's single right on the heels of the much-anticipated Season 5 finale, airing Aug. 26 at 9PM local time on HBO.

"I'm ready for listeners to strap into this ride with me!" declares Gavankar. "And a ride it will be, a ride through everything musically unusual and…weird."

We are already strapped in, riding sidecar with her!

Will you be nabbing "Waiting for Godot" on August 28?
