Thu, 22 Mar 2012 11:15:18
Questlove of the Grammy Award winning hip-hop collective The Roots will guest DJ the Music Crossing Borders 2nd Annual Take A TourTM Gala, a benefit to engage guests in MCB's inspiring mission of providing music education to children in urban and underserved communities, on May 10 at 7 PM at Studio 450.
The RSVP-only event is sponsored by Guitar Center and O.N.E. Coconut Water, and will also feature performances by the MCB band showcasing excerpts of their dynamic world music program for public school children. Even though it's RSVP only, we feel compelled to share the news of a good cause with you and how a hip-hop visionary is doing his part. If you can afford to attend, do it.
Since 2010, Music Crossing Borders has been passionately cross-pollinating a diverse selection of world music for students in New York City public schools. With the goal of inspiring children to expand their horizons and achieve their academic potential, the Take A TourTM program brings the MCB band directly to local schools in economically disadvantaged communities. In a high energy, interactive experience that introduces a variety of new musical styles from Afro-Cuban and jazz to blues, Dixieland, and klezmer, the Music Crossing Borders band creates a vibrant and inclusive atmosphere, which cuts across both cultural and economic divides and makes MCB's slogan "One Language, One World," ring true.
Proceeds from the Gala will benefit the organization's Take A TourTM program. Music Crossing Borders is a registered 501(c)(3) non-profit organization.
Tickets are $150 through April 15 and $200 from April 16 through May 8.
