Former music industry exec Alan McGee is auctioning off a previously unheard song by The Libertines tomorrow, Feb. 25, in Manchester. He is also auctioning letters from Tony Blair, the former British Prime Minister, and Hole singer Courtney Love. What a collection, huh? Why get rid of it? He's over it.
According to the Manchester Evening News, he will also auction off around 100 other items, including records, photos and fanzines signed by bands who used to work with his record labels Creation and Poptones.
It's a matter of cleaning house, as opposed to a cash grab. He said, "I'm just clearing out all this rock and roll rubbish from my house. I've no real interest in the past and have sort of moved on from the music scene – I'm more interested in books and films now."
Wow, that's a pretty cold and indifferent attitude towards some cool stuff and his personal history.
What do you think of Alan McGee's rationale for selling stuff?
