V2 to Offer Free Ad-Supported Downloads
V2 Records will offer music from their roster as free downloads. The British label has just signed a deal with we7.com, which will tag short ads onto the beginning of each music track based on the personal information of the targeted consumer. Will this keep you from illegally downloading ad-free tracks from Limewire and Bittorrent? Probably not, but it's worth a shot.V2's current artist roster includes Bloc Party, Cold War Kids, and The Rakes. Which tracks will be made available as free downloads have yet to be determined. V2's American office folded a few months back because of financial problems.
