Ann Kirsten Kennis, the model whose photo appears on the cover of Vampire Weekend's sophomore album Contra spoke to Vanity Fair about her $2 million misappropriation-of-image lawsuit against the band, its label XL Recordings and the picture's photographer, Tod Brody. The obviously pissed off former model claimed the picture was part of the public's interest in the album and therefore, she should be paid for its usage. She also claimed a photo release was not properly obtained, either.
"It felt like someone was exploiting me… Who do these people think they are that they can just take my picture and plaster it everywhere?" said Kennis, who says she was never approached by the band and has never met Brody. Kennis, 52, modeled in magazine and TV advertisements for L'Oreal, Revlon, Cuervo and others during the 1980s and early 1990s.
Someone call the wah-wah-wahmbulence. Exploiting her? Give me a break. The band used a photo of her. She should be thankful, grateful and honored that her photo was used. She should considered herself blessed that Vampire Weekend, only one of the hottest bands in rock music, elected to use her photo.
What do you think of the model's suit against Vampire Weekend?
