Take a walk on a wet Florida aftermoon.
Orlando alt-rockers Savannah have decided to premiere the video for "Love Ain't On Your Side" from Tempus with us.
The song is supremely catchy, with a subtle undercurrent of urgency that builds up in the verses. That urgency explodes in the stadium-sized choruses.
"Everything we've ever done, we've tried to do ourselves. We are fortunate enough to have a group of guys in the band who do different things for a living that end up working in our favor. James and Warren are incredible producers and mixers so we were able to work a lot of songs out and get a solid feel for great recordings before we took them to James Paul Wisner for his touch, which was the first thing we ever did with someone else. I, Colin, am videographer and photographer, so I've actually shot our last two music videos with some help from the guys, and some friends. This one went a little more complex than the last, and we had one of our good buddies Seth Dunlap come out and help with the band shots, while Colin filmed all the other shots and edited the video."
He furthered, "We had our friend Hanna Russell, who just recently did a huge modeling job for American Eagle, come out and play the love interest. It was awesome to work with her, didn't even have to tell her what to do, she nailed it. I sat in the back of my SUV filming while Warren drove and James and Hanna walked behind the car down the street. We actually shot James's parts in cooler Florida weather about four months before we decided to add the love interest aspect, and it was a rainy day, so when we went back four months later with Hanna, we were really hoping hard for rain, and lucky enough, the famous 4PM Florida rains popped up and we made it happen!"
He finished, "We wanted the premise of this music video to remain simple but still convey the message that lie within the lyrics. James said in an interview recently, 'The song steals the good and bad emotions that derive from love. So many times I've been in relationships where I thought I was love, only to realize that love was nothing more than infatuation. This song talks a lot about that, among the many other different emotions associated with love. Like the lyric, "It ain't on your side and when you try.' This line is simply describing that no matter how hard you try you can't control it. You cannot control people or love. It ain't always right... Sometimes you find something good in your life and it goes your way, other times the things you thought you had going your way don't work out, and you have to pick up the pieces and move on with your life. For us I think the video shows that final moment when you realize something isn't right, accept that reality, let go, and go your own way. No matter how much you want love to be on your side, sometimes it isn't right. Life goes on."
Wow, that is deep as the ocean. It's a very powerful sentiment that reveals the nature of the song and the clip.
Absorb it and think about it as you enjoy the video.
