William Fitzsimmons Videos
A delicate and deep live performance video.
William Fitzsimmons is premiering his video for "Matter" today. The song lives on Pittsburgh, out now via Nettwerk.
But it's not as simple as that!
"Matter" is the last to be released in the series of videos from Pittsburgh. The mini-album is a collection of seven songs about the city where Fitzsimmons was born and raised. In October 2014, his grandmother passed away and during the three days spent putting her to rest, Pittsburgh was formed. The seven songs are in memoriam to her and in remembrance of the city they shared.
So there is some serious depth here!
"'Matter' was largely written before I realized I was writing it," the artist told us. "It was one of those songs that forms, at least in concept and affect, long before I put specific words to music. It's based off of a difficult, but necessary, insight I had while driving the 12-hour trip to be with my family following the death of my grandmother. I was (not unusually) speeding and realized that no matter how fast I drove, I couldn't get there in time to change what happened. That scene in one of the Superman movies when Christopher Reeves makes time rewind by reversing the rotation of the earth is a nice idea, but in real life, that s**t doesn't happen. And all of the unsaid things, the regrets, the mistakes between us; none of that really matters after someone is gone. You have to find a way to face that stuff and eventually let it go."
Those are very powerful words. If you are currently navigating your way through a similar loss, take heed of those words.
There's a lot to this album and this video. Absorb all that info and then enjoy the song and the clip. It reveals some of the mysteries of PGH in relation to Wm. Fitzsimmons.
'Pittsburgh' from William Fitzsimmons is available now via Nettwerk Records.
