For fans of counter-culture music-made-mainstream it doesn't get much better than this. Folk-punk rockers The Violent Femmes and brooding British post-punks Echo & the Bunnymen are embarking on a co-headlining North American tour this summer.
The tour commences on July 11th in Philadelphia and includes stops in Brooklyn, Boston, Detroit, Chicago, Denver and Seattle before wrapping August 3rd in Vancouver, BC.
Presale tickets will be available for some concerts — but for everyone one else tickets go on sale April 7th at 10 a.m. local time.
The Violent Femmes are still touring in support of We Can Do Anything, their ninth LP, which arrived last March — their first full length album since Freak Magnet, which was released in 2000. The band are reportedly working on the follow-up to their 2016 album, which is expected to arrive this year.
Meanwhile, Echo & the Bunnymen continue to tour regularly. Their most recent album, Meteorites, was released in 2014. In advance of the tour with the Echos, lead Bunnyman Ian McCulloch is taking part on a solo tour of the U.K.
With a combined reputation for classic alt-rock cuts, these two bands seem like ideal tour partners, bringing shows that will surely present many opportunities for fans to raise their lighters and sing along.
