If you think Justin Timberlake could use a little help bringing the sexy back, you have a chance to lend your pipes to the cause at this year's Grammys. The Recording Academy is sponsoring a rather American Idol-esque competition called "My Grammy Moment." Would-be superstars have until January 3rd to submit a 60-second video of themselves belting out one of a handful of Grammy-approved songs: Timberlake's own "Cry Me A River," Mariah Carey's "Vision of Love," Aretha Franklin's "Respect," Whitney Houston's "I Wanna Dance With Somebody," Faith Hill's "Breathe," Luther Vandross' "Dance with my Father," Tina Turner's "What's Love Got To Do With It," and Alicia Keys' "If I Ain't Got You."
A VIP committee of performers, producers and power players will sift through the entries, and name a dozen winners to be placed at the mercy of the voting public, who will send three finalists to the Grammys to rehearse with Timberlake. Online and text messaging voting will continue during the ceremony, until the winner is finally revealed and takes the stage to sing an as-yet-unspecified song with Timberlake.
Pretty cool, huh? But Justin urges the winner to think about a bigger prize than shared stage time. "I'm happy to participate in this unique approach to discovering unsigned talent," said Timberlake, who had to backpedal earlier this year after implying that Idol winner Taylor Hicks couldn't "carry a tune in a bucket." "[But] all of you contestants out there should look at this as more than just a chance to duet with me, because it's really an opportunity to begin your career as a superstar. And I'll be there to coach you along."
