War Child CD Pairs McCartney, Dylan Up With Modern Artists
War Child—a longtime charity that helps kids in war zones—has revealed the details behind its Heroes compilation. Due out November 22, it asks Paul McCartney, Bob Dylan, David Bowie, Brian Wilson and more to pick a new-ish artist to cover one of their classic songs. Among the selections are Duffy performing Wings' "Live and Let Die," Hot Chip tackling, Joy Division's "Transmission," The Kooks covering The Kinks ("Victoria"), and Beck busting out a rousing rendition of Dylan's "Leonard Skin Pill Box Hat." Former Stone Roses guitarist John Squire contributed Heroes' cover art, much like he did for War Child's 1995 release, Help."I have been supporting War Child since 1995," McCartney said in a statement. "Their work with children in war zones saves lives and their work with those who take decisions that help them to do something about it saves even more lives."
The former Beatle added, "I think Duffy's version of 'Live And Let Die' is great … The breadth of talent on this project is amazing; it's great that so many people gave their time, energy and support to this initiative."
