Warner Bros. to Reboot Lara Croft Franchise
Warner Bros. is currently developing a reboot of the Lara Croft: Tomb Raider franchise, which was based on a video game featuring a voluptuous British archaeologist who embarks on a variety of global adventures. The game celebrated its 10th anniversary in 2006, which included a Special Edition release of the game. Paramount made two films based on the game, starring Angelina Jolie.Lara Croft: Tomb Raider was released in 2001 and was a massive success, while its sequel, 2003's Lara Croft Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life, was only half as successful. The film rights were eventually transferred back to Eidos, the video game company, but when Time Warner increased its stake in Eidos, the Lara Craft: Tomb Raider film rights were included as part of the deal.
Jolie will not be returning to the role, which will be completely revamped. The character's back story, love interest, and nemesis story arcs will be completely reimagined. It's likely an actress will be cast after a writer and director come aboard the project.
