Warner Bros. has notified Bollywood via an ad run in local newspapers that it will take legal action if any Indian studios plan to "borrow" from or stage an Indian remake of the Academy Award nominated The Curious Case of Benjamin Button. The studio has said it has made a commitment to India's film business, but that it will take all the necessary steps to protect the intellectual property rights of its films against unauthorized remakes or heavily inspired Bollywood fare.

India has historically ignored copyright issues, and insiders don't believe that the warning will cause Bollywood studios to heed it. Indian courts are not typically supportive of foreign rights holders, either.
