Watch: Erykah Badu on Hotline Bling, Trap&B, and her Impressive Tech Savvy

Erykah Badu sat down with Okayplayer recently to chat about the many interesting features that inspired and/or are included within her new album, But You Caint Use My Phone. In a segment filmed from her bedroom—OKP calls it "the inner sanctum," Badu, "Badubotron"—the singer waxes on creative forces behind her new mixtape ("It just happens..I was pulling things out of midair...I was joking, a little bit"), giving her fans her cell phone number through clues in the cover art ("I wanted to give fans the number, but I didn't want to just give it to them, because I think people love the idea of discovering something"), and her obsession with social media ("Vine, Twitter, Facebook, Periscope, Snapchat, Instagram...I like Pinterest a lot").
It's a interesting portrait of a fascinating artist who also recently wrapped a seven-hour-long Reddit AMA (there's a good review via USA Today) flinging Badziums on everything from Kanye and Drake to veggie key lime pie and what Childish Gambino smells like ("a comic book store").
Watch The Questions at Okayplayer, or below, and it's really something to observe Badu interact with her fans calling her in real time (she takes a few calls during the episode). The fans clearly love it, but so does Badu, who appears to take a lot of inspiration from them, too: they were they dominant voice, after all, that clamored for another album upon the release of her remix of Drake's "Hotline Bling."
