St. Beauty, an Atlanta-based duo made up of artists Alex Belle and Isis Valentino, recently released their debut music video for the song, "Going Nowhere." The tune, a shimmering track Fader has called, "an ode to the uncertainty of young love," highlights the singing of both members: Isis, who brings a Dido-meets-Lorde vibe to the tune, and Alex, who has a bit of reggae swagger in her vocals.
The duo is part of the art collective known as Wondaland Arts Society, a group and record label (an imprint of Epic) that comprises other Atlanta creatives like Janelle Monáe, Jidenna, Roman GianArthur, and Deep Cotton. The song was first featured on Wondaland Presents: The Eephus, a compilation record of Wondaland artists.
The song's lush production recalls the likes of '90s Massive Attack, with mesmerizing slow beats and layered synths, and the video has the nostalgia to match. The vid's free-spirited adventurers could double as marketers for Urban Outfitters, sporting bohemian, hippie threads featuring lots of plaid and more than a few pairs of Doc Marten's. It's a fun and carefree portrait in the day of some very beautiful young people.
