St. Vincent's Annie Clark announced her directorial debut in April of 2016, when she outlined her participation in XX, an all-female-led horror anthology. The four part anthology film's tagline is "Four deadly tales by four deadly women." At the time of conception, the XX project gave each director full creative license to tell any story they chose, so long as it revolved around a female protagonist. While the directors were given a free creative rein within budget and time constraints, all of the segments themselves had to include elements of the horror genre.
Aside from assuming directorial duties Clark also co-wrote her segment, which is called The Birthday Party, with Roxanne Benjamin (who was also behind the anthology series V/H/S).
Now we can watch the trailer, showing parts of Clark's work — and it's pretty compelling stuff.
Clark has also been dabbling further into the film world with her contribution of a soundtrack to Kristen Stewart's new short film "Come Swim".
Back in 2015, Clark won the GRAMMY for Best Alternative Music Album, for her fifth studio LP, St. Vincent. She was the first woman in 20 years to win the award. Despite her forays into the movies and scoring world, there has been no announcement about her next album at this time, and she currently has no tour dates scheduled.
