Tegan and Sara, Jenny Lewis, Jack Johnson, and Moby all recorded performances from their beds yesterday as part of the annual Bedstock Festival. The online event is organized by MyMusicRx, a Children's Cancer Association program whose mission is to deliver "the healing power of music to kids and teens".
MyMusicRx reaches thousands of kids and teens in pediatric hospitals across the country with topical music content that makes a difference. Medical research shows music can play a powerful role in their daily experience, with measurable benefits that are social, emotional, and physiological. These include reduced heart rate and blood pressure; relief from stress, depression, anxiety, and sleeplessness; better pain management, and improved mood and relaxation.
This year's lineup featured almost 50 acts rolling cameras in their bedrooms, tour buses and more, turning them into makeshift venues. Participants included Alessia Cara, Warpaint, Big Data, Aesop Rock, Broods, Skylar Grey, Kinski, Panic! At The Disco, We The Kings and Norah Jones. The Decemberists' Colin Meloy participated by reading Dr. Seuss' The Sneetches. You can make donations in support of Bedstock at the MyMusicRX website.
