Crystal Fighters Videos
Check out the video for "Silent Eyes", the product of a collaboration between Crystal Fighters' Ellie Fletcher and Brooklyn based "sexwave" band Tubetops. Oh we love indie collabos.
So how did they all hook up?
In March of 2012, Tubetops opened for London-based Crystal Fighters at the iconic Brooklyn venue, Glasslands. After the show, they formed a long distance collaborative relationship with CF's lead female vocalist, Ellie Fletcher. Tubetops are finally releasing the first taste of the London-BK exchange, a dark and sultry track called "Silent Eyes." Using field recordings of New York City traffic, smashing light bulbs, and dim bars, Tubetops creates a mysterious and haunting sonic environment in which Fletcher's vocals find a perfect home. Recorded in both Brooklyn and London, "Silent Eyes" is the U.S.-U.K. crossover to bump in these waning days of summer. The video, directed by Dan Kagan, properly channels the sinister vibes of the song with the right combination of sex and violence.
Tubetops is a four piece band that combines elements of New Wave and R & B, sexuality and nostalgia. Glossy and rough vocals are presented side by side with ambitious lyrics about love, lust and guilt. Members frequently switch instruments to produce a mosaic of sound from a growing collection of vintage synthesizers, acoustic and electronic instruments, field recordings, and samples.
Kyiki is the name of Ellie Fletcher's solo project, which she describes as dark electronic pop with deep bass lines. Written, recorded and produced by Ellie while on tour with Crystal Fighters, her first work as a solo artist is almost complete and sure to turn heads upon its release.
