Ween to Reunite for Two Shows in Colorado
Mon, 16 Nov 2015 15:04:52
It's been just about four years since Gene and Deen Ween, aka Aaron Freeman and Mickey Melchiondo, played their last show together as Ween, on New Year's Eve 2011 in Denver. The band split shortly after, reportedly on good terms though not without blowing a few now legendary live shows in the process.
Since then, the two group leaders have kept busy. According to Jambase, Freeman "went on to issue his first solo album, Marvelous Clouds, a tribute to singer/poet Rod McKuen. In 2014 he formed a band called Freeman and issued an LP under the moniker. Earlier this year he started using the Gene Ween name once again for a series of 'Gene Ween Does Billy Joel' performances, solo band shows and an appearance with Umphrey's McGee at the Summer Camp Music Festival. Melchiondo formed The Dean Ween Group shortly after the breakup and for a while was backed by [longtime backing band members] [bassist Dave] Dreiwitz, [keyboardist Glenn] McClelland and [drummer Claude] Coleman as well as guitarist Scott Rednor."
Today we hear that Ween, complete with Dreiwitz, McClelland, and Coleman, will reunite for two shows over President's Day Weekend at the 1st Bank Center in Broomfield, Colorado, February 12th and 13th, 2016.
Freeman and Melchiondo have said that the gigs are "going to be fucking mind-blowing, promising "to dig deep into the Ween catalog in Colorado to try 'new stuff that nobody has ever heard live before.'"
"I can't wait to get on that stage and hear how happy this makes people," Freeman says.
"Ween is an extension of who we are," says Melchiondo. "It's not a persona that we put on to go onstage."
